One of the leading candidates for fight of the year just got a black eye. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva was just nabbed for elevated testosterone levels on his post-fight drug test following his Fight Night 33 classic with Mark Hunt. Bigfoot will be suspended 9 months. (more…)

Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva put on a show for us this weekend. In what may have been the best heavyweight fight in UFC history, these two guys had everyone on the edge of their seats the entire 5 round fight. And they knew it too. Afterwards, the two hugged it out and seemed to know that they just put on a fight that will be (more…)
‘UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot’ — why we’re high on Bigfoot; but not so much on 2 other main cardersPosted: December 4, 2013 in Commentary/Opinion, UFC Events
UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot is Friday in the U.S. As is becoming customary for UFC “free” events, there is a smattering of interesting fights for our viewing pleasure, mixed in with the standard “maybe I’ll record this one and watch it later” type fights. Since I’m becoming resigned to that format, let me skip around and talk about just a few things I’ll be monitoring this weekend.
Give Bigfoot some Hespect. We know the best heavyweight (more…)

Could the most shocking and noteworthy aspect of this weekend’s TUF Finale have really been Nate Diaz’s bizarre post-fight interview? Possibly. Not only did he not come close to answering ANY of Jon Anik’s questions, but he seemed to combine incoherence with upbeat enthusiasm. Ironically, it might have been the most extroverted I’ve (more…)

We’ve been talking about the decision at UFC 167 non-stop since Georges St-Pierre was announced the winner. Johny Hendricks fans are outraged and are calling for an overhaul of the judging system. GSP fans are unapologetic and are saying things like “Hendricks tapped” and whatnot. With all that hubbub, we almost forgot to chat (more…)

By now, our loyal readers have heard of The Juice–our local/regional MMA correspondent throughout the Midwest. He’s also the co-host of our favorite fan-friendly MMA Podcast, Beyond The Cage. Juice had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas for the first time and he made it a very memorable UFC weekend. He was able to travel in the Brian Ebersole entourage for the entire weekend. Brian is also a friend of VigilanteMMA and a high school classmate of Juice. (more…)

UFC 166 might have a card as deep as any we’ve seen all year. Even the prelims are stacked with interesting–and hopefully exciting–fights. A hundred years from now, UFC 166 will go down as perhaps one of the three most awesome things ever to happen to the city of Houston. It will be right up there with the founding of Enron and the arrival of Ralph Sampson. Now let’s (more…)
We’ve been in an unfortunate rut lately. As fans, we’ve kind of gotten accustomed to subpar UFC lineups, especially for the free preliminary fights. Hell, even the main cards of some of these events have looked pretty sparse. Well unless the next 48 hours brings a rash of horribly-timed injuries, those days are over—at least for this event.

In case you missed the news, longtime bantamweight contender Scott Jorgensen will be dropping to flyweight to face Ian McCall at UFC on Fox 9. He announced his intentions to drop to 125—and the McCall matchup—quietly about a month ago. That’s an interesting move to say the least.
At 135, Jorgensen has fought a who’s-who of the division from Barao to (more…)
