Is it possible the Diaz brothers are the smartest guys in the world? It appears that Nate’s bizarre post-fight interview last weekend actually worked. He said some crazy things about him and Gilbert Melendez being the two top lightweights in the world. Champion Anthony Pettis—on the sidelines nursing an injury—was listening. (more…)

Remember that bit of advice for Rocky Balboa from his ancient manager/trainer Mickey? Well perhaps he’s onto something. UFC bantamweight contender Michael McDonald says he hasn’t had sex in over 3 years! (more…)
‘UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot’ — why we’re high on Bigfoot; but not so much on 2 other main cardersPosted: December 4, 2013 in Commentary/Opinion, UFC Events
UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot is Friday in the U.S. As is becoming customary for UFC “free” events, there is a smattering of interesting fights for our viewing pleasure, mixed in with the standard “maybe I’ll record this one and watch it later” type fights. Since I’m becoming resigned to that format, let me skip around and talk about just a few things I’ll be monitoring this weekend.
Give Bigfoot some Hespect. We know the best heavyweight (more…)
UFC heavyweight Shane Del Rosario suffered what’s being called a catastrophic cardiac collapse last week, and remains hospitalized, clinging to life. Early reports were sketchy. ESPN reported that Del Rosario passed away, with Dana White even tweeting “RIP Shane Del Rosario.” Those reports were false and were retracted. (more…)

More than a few people looked over the list documenting the salaries of each of the TUF Finale competitors and did a double-take. Main eventer—and longtime UFC vet—Nate Diaz’s salary MUST be a misprint. Apparently it was NOT a misprint. Diaz made just $15k to show and another $15k for the win over Gray Maynard. That’s shockingly low. (more…)
Do people even use Yahoo! anymore? Must to my surprise, they must. And much to my surprise, the people that use Yahoo! are a little behind the times. They just announced their top searches of the year, and I’m baffled by the results.
There were three MMA stars in the top 10 sports-related searches. Two of them are about as irrelevant to MMA in 2013 as Norman Smiley is to the world of (more…)

We usually save our Biggest Winners and Biggest Losers columns for the pay per views. But based on some highlights—and especially lowlights—from Saturday’s TUF Finale, I think a few BW/BL’s are warranted.

Could the most shocking and noteworthy aspect of this weekend’s TUF Finale have really been Nate Diaz’s bizarre post-fight interview? Possibly. Not only did he not come close to answering ANY of Jon Anik’s questions, but he seemed to combine incoherence with upbeat enthusiasm. Ironically, it might have been the most extroverted I’ve (more…)

Gray Maynard loves to beat a dead horse. The Bully, who will face Nate Diaz—for the 3rd time—this weekend at the TUF Finale, says one of his goals is to fight nemesis Frankie Edgar for a 4th time. He’ll even drop to 145 pounds to do it. My question is…why?
“It just goes back to that in my mind, it’s all even,” Maynard (more…)
