Why do we have to go through this exercise every few months? It seems like someone from boxing is always saying they could kick a UFC champion’s ass…and unfortunately, vice versa. I ripped the hell out of Tyson Fury for saying he could destroy “idiot” and “midget” Cain Velasquez. I ripped James Toney for thinking he could compete with Randy Couture. I ripped Jon Jones for saying he could bet a Klitschko. I laughed it off when Anderson Silva said he wanted to box Roy Jones Jr. and when Rampage/Mayweather was being tossed around.
So I guess I should rip Junior Dos Santos too.
Junior—and this isn’t the first time he’s done this by the way—claims that he can defeat the Klitschko brothers in a boxing match. That’s right. Vitali (WBC heavyweight champion) and Wladimir (WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring Heavyweight Champion) Klitschko are among the most dominant boxers in the world.
As I said when Jones made similar comments, these guys must be smoking crack to think they can jump into another sport and dominate the best in the world in another sport. As an MMA fan, I greatly prefer it when boxers make stupid claims about entering MMA. But thanks to Junior (and Jones before him); I’m forced to write shit like this.
Listen guys, you CAN’T beat the best pro boxers in the world. If Junior wants to call out Evander Holyfield or Joe Frazier, go ahead. Those guys are long retired—and in Frazier’s case, dead. But don’t make yourself—and MMA—look stupid by saying you could KTFO the best guys in the world. I’m begging you.
