It has not been a good 2012 for King Mo Lawal. First he has his TKO victory over Lorenz Larkin over-turned due to a failed drug test. Then he had surgery and had to deal with a re-occurring staph infection that almost took his life. And now he’s no longer a part of the biggest MMA organization in the world.
In a report from MMAJunkie, and confirmed by UFC President Dana White, King Mo is no longer with Zuffa. Apparently, after King Mo’s drug hearing with the NSAC yesterday, Lawal tweeted some pretty controversial things about the NSAC, which lead to his ouster.
As you may know, the NSAC decided to suspend Lawal for 9 months due to his failed drug test, took 30% of his “show” purse and made him forfeit his 30,000 win bonus. However, that was not the catalyst for King Mo’s outrage. Rather, it was a line of questioning that got under his skin. Here’s a transcript from MMAJunkie:
During the questioning, Lundvall asked Lawal whether he read and understood English in relation to a pre-fight questionnaire that required Lawal to disclose any medications he had taken two weeks prior to the fight as well as any injuries he might have sustained.
“I honestly feel like Lundvall was a racist bitch asking me if I can read or speak english,” Lawal tweeted. “Go on somewhere with that [expletive]!!!”
Lawal would later state that he wasn’t throwing the whole NSAC under the bus, just one particular individual.
“Its funny how people are tryna say that I’m callin the commission racist,” he tweeted. “No!! They aren’t. But there was one person on the panel that was out of line with the question she asked me. I found it insulting, prejudice, and a lil racist. I say racist from my past experiences, I have been asked that in the past as an insult.”
I’m assuming there’s more to the story here from both sides, so I’ll do my best to keep you posted. In the meantime, it looks like we’ve seen the last of King Mo, which is too bad.
