A lot has been made this week about the initial meeting between top lightweights Donald Cerrone and Nate Diaz a few months ago. Essentially Cerrone went up to Diaz at an open workout to shake Diaz’s hand and was infamously blown off and cursed at. Yikes. Now Nate Diaz tells his side of the story to our boy Ariel Helwani, and explains why he acted the way he did.
He just tried to be my friend. Tried to come up and say hi, I just walked the other way. I wasn’t trying to be a bully or anything. I think he’s trying to push me in a bully’s direction, making me the bad guy but I just walked the other way. I think he’s just making it a little more than what it was.
Keep in mind this meeting was prior to either fighter knowing that they were going to fight one another months later.
But all is not lost between these two firecrackers. In fact, Cerrone goes on record that he’s actually a fan of the Diaz Bros.
