No one ever accused Nate Diaz of being a friendly guy. And it certainly doesn’t take much to set Donald Cerrone off. When those two things are combined, you can bet blood will start to boil. Diaz and Cerrone are set to fight in the co-main event of UFC 141 at the end of the month. Diplomacy isn’t their best attribute.
On the preview for UFC 141, Cerrone discusses his first ever encounter with Diaz at a previous open workout session. Here’s the story according to Cowboy…
At the open workout prior to this fight, I walk over, “hey man what’s going on?” and shake his hand. He slaps my hand out of the way and calls me a punk ass and walks off.
It’s definitely not a hard story to believe. And almost on cue, when asked about the incident, Diaz didn’t have much of an explanation. Nor was he apologetic.
Yeah, he shouldn’t have done that.
Diaz has taken the stance that anyone in his division is his potential opponent. And that means his potential enemy. Many fighters will choose to sidestep the war of the words leading up to a fight with either of the Diaz brothers, knowing its a losing battle to try to out-trash talk the angry Stocktonians. Cerrone is a different story though. Never one to mince words–ask Jamie Varner, Nam Phan and countless others–Cowboy will no doubt fire back at Diaz.
For those of you who love drama and verbal warfare, sit back and enjoy. For those of you who don’t, that’s ok because the fight might be even better.
